We are the knitting women, weaving swift
Our webs of olive drab and navy gray
We are the women, keeping thought away
By this new work of love, this eager gift
Through which our men, facing bitter flight
Under the stars of foreign lands,
Shall know that still a million women's hands
Uphold them in the darkness and the night.

Yeah, I'm weird. :D
Here is where you can read a little more. There are oodles and doodles of organizations you can do things like this through. This one is called Operation Gratitude. Their goal is one scarf for every care package to our service people for Christmas this year (only six months away...). That's about 60,000 scarves. If you can knit, I strongly encourage you to take up your needles for the cause. It does make a difference.
Yes we can! -wink- :P
